Majura Women’s Group Program
Providing opportunities for friendship and creative outlet for women with young children. Come along on Wednesdays during school term from 9.30am to 12:30. We meet at the Downer Community Centre. Childcare for children 9 months+ provided for a gold coin donation. New members are always welcome. Our activities are open to all mums with kids under 5 years of age. No bookings required, just show up!

Wednesdays 1st Feb 9:30am | Board Games Welcome new mums joining us this year, and welcome back to everyone else! Today we sit down and catch up over a range of board games and a cuppa. Feel free to bring in your favourites to play with the group. |
8th Feb 9:30am | Tie Dye Lets get groovy with some bright and colourful tie dye! Tote bags, scrunchies and socks will be provided by MWG for you get creative with. If you would like to tie dye some clothing, please bring along a couple of white items in your child/ren's size. Please note we will be swapping rooms with the childcare this week due to the messy nature of the activity. All mums of kids 0-5 welcome. |
15th Feb 9.30am | Macrame Wall Hangings Today we welcome back local artist Annette to teach us how to make macrame wall hangings. Annette attended Majura Womens Group many moons ago, and focuses on the use of natural materials and environmentally friendly living. All mums of kids 0-5 welcome. |
22nd Feb 9.30am | Yoga and Mediation Relax your mind and body as we learn some yoga and meditation techniques with Judy. Please bring a yoga mat if you have one, a drink bottle, and something to keep warm during the meditation & visualisation. All mums of kids 0-5 welcome. |
1st March 9.30am | Zentangle Squares With a few simple lines, the possibilities are endless! Join us today as we learn zentangle techniques with Janet. Janet is a certified zentangle teacher, and will lead us though making our own unique zentangle squares in this calming and satisfying pastime. All mums of kids 0-5 welcome. |
8th March 9.30am | Polymer Clay Creations Local artist Lex Sorrentino has been teaching sculpting in Polymer & Air-Drying Clay for approximately 24 years. And this week she will be sharing her knowledge with us, as we learn how to make and bake beautiful polymer clay objects of our own!. All mums of kids 0-5 welcome. |
15th March 9.30am | Acrylic Pour Let's get creative! Today we doing acrylic pouring with Let's Pour! Acrylic paint pouring is a fluid painting technique used to create art by pouring acrylic paint onto a canvas or surface using many different techniques. These make amazing marbling patterns. Not one painting is the same. All mums of kids 0-5 welcome. |
22nd March 9.30am | Decluttering Sometimes getting your stuff in order is hard going. It helps if you’ve got someone there to “hold your hand” and give you tips and advice along the way... Today we welcome Virginia from Get Well Sorted to answer all our questions about decluttering, and help us get a feel for what deserves a space in our homes as we work towards making it a place that reflects who you are and where you want to be. 29th March 9.30am | Gemstone Trees Today we are working with wire and gem chips to make our very own gemstone trees. Many branches or few, one colour or many, it's up to you as we go at our own pace to make these beautiful decorative pieces. All mums of kids 0-5 welcome. |

3rd May 9:30am | Visual Language Workshop
This week we welcome Danika from Visual Language Connections. During this session we will learn the basics of Key Word Sign and how as a parent you can incorporate some visual language strategies into your home. Key Word Signing incorporates slow, simplified speech and individual hand signs (in Australia we use Auslan signs). It's great for anyone learning a language or children/adults who respond to visual communication strategies. Learn some foundation information about the benefits of using visual language to support expressive and receptive language. All mums of kids 0-5 welcome. |
10th May 9.30am | Shower Steamers Like a bath bomb but for your shower! WIth winter coming, these DIY shower steamers with lavendar and eucalypus will be great to clear your stuffy sinuses and relax after a long day. Today we will be making a batch each, and decorating jars to take them home in. All mums of kids 0-5 welcome. |

31st May 9.30am | Sashiko Today Alison Yamazaki from Wabi-Sabi Designs will be teaching us some sashiko techniques to help us get some extra life out of our favourite pieces of clothing. Sashiiko is a type of traditional Japanese stitching used for the decorative and functional reinforcement of clothing. All mums of kids 0-5 welcome. |
7th June 9.30am | Zumba Don your active wear and let's get this party started! We welcome back the ever popular Naomi to lead us in some energetic Zumba dancing. All mums of kids 0-5 welcome. |
14th June 9.30am | Window Clings / Sun-catchers This week we are making self-adhesive window clings great for sticking to windows, glass, mirrors and more. Draw or trace your design onto a plastic sheet with leadline, and then colour it in with glass paint. All mums of kids 0-5 welcome. |
21st June 9.30am | Book Binding Today we are joined by Shihui from Based Book Arts, who will be teaching us some basic bookbinding skills. Make your very own notebook or sketchbook to take home using a Japanese stab binding technique. All mums of kids 0-5 welcome. |

2nd August 9.30am | Bracelet Making Make your own solid sterling silver pearl mandala bracelet to take home, using simple hand tools. Sinead from Sinead Buckney Jewellery will be guiding us step by step to manke our bracelets and learn basic wire working and bead skills. All mums of kids aged 0-5 welcome. |
9th August 9.30am | Nia With Amanda It's comfy clothes this week as we experience Nia with Amanda. Nia is a unique movement practice that fuses the dance, martial and healing arts together to create a transformational experience. 13th September 9.30am | Make mending Fun! Mending clothes can seem a chore but it can be fun when shared with others - and by using creative approaches. In this session, we are joined by Monica Andrews who will teach us about clothing sustainablility and how to draw on the Japanese boro technique to revive torn clothing and brighten our wardrobes in a sustainable fashion. Monica is currently working on a PHD in clothing sustainablility, and runs the textiles section of the ANU repair cafe. Bring along torn clothing and patches of fabric if you have them.
